Established on November 8th 2017, The Louvre Abu Dhabi is the result of an cultural collaboration between United Arab Emirates and France.
The museum brings the Louvre name to Abu Dhabi and presents both contemporary and ancient works.
The french architect, Jean Nouvel is known for his work on the Quai Branly in Paris, the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, and the extension to MoMA.
The agreement with France means the museum has borrowed a number of masterpieces from French institutions. Highlights include on loan from the Musée d’Orsay: Vincent Van Gogh’s Self Portrait, 1887.
